What does it mean to be a BAS Agent, not just a bookkeeper?

A BAS Agent

  • Is required to have a minimum of 4,800 hours of relevant experience
  • Is required to have completed at least a Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping)
  • Is required to have Public Liability Insurance
  • Is required to complete 45 hours of CPE (Continuing Professional Development) every three year period
  • Is registered with the Tax Practitioners Board
  • Has access to ATO BAS Agent Portal
  • Has access to ATO Professionals Phone Contacts
  • Is required to meet all BAS & Tax Obligations within applicable timeframes
  • Is able to do contract bookkeeping (to do contract bookkeeping and not be registered as a BAS Agent is illegal and can incur fines and/or imprisonment)
